Maximum Bandwidth PLC Modbus/TCP
How to define the maximum bandwidth generate by a PLC using Modbus/TCP.

Hi,

I tried to define the maximum bandwidth generate by a PLC using Modbus/TCP.

I have an OPC server (OFS server) which ask my PLC (SCHNEIDER Quantum) in Modbus/TCP.

Somebody can help me?

Thank you very much

Interesting question.

There are several discussions of Modbus throughput calculation considerations on control.com:

http://www.control.com/thread/956864156 "RS-485 Timing Considerations"

http://www.control.com/thread/1397486168 "Modbus Data Transmission Time"

Or NWBoson's rule-of-thumb of 1 second:
http://www.plctalk.net/qanda/showthread.php?t=62153

but I don't recall a discussion of OPC server throughput calculations.

I'm stumped. I don't know how much overhead an OPC server requires.

Run a test?
